THE borough’s bin collection will remain weekly, as the council’s cabinet votes to keep the current system.

At a cabinet meeting that took place tonight (September 20), every member of the panel voted to keep the borough’s bin collection weekly, instead of moving to an alternate weekly collection.

After a process of gathering the opinions of residents from across Basingstoke and Deane, 94 per cent of the more than 1,100 people who participated said that they were satisfied with their current service. The council empties the bins of nearly 73,000 across the whole of the borough.

Chair of the cabinet, councillor Clive Sanders, said: “It’s about listening to our residents and it is clear that they do not want this change. We are not in a position where we need to make this change and we should be improving our services, not reducing them.”

The meeting also highlighted the need for the borough to increase its recycling rate.
