THE results from the eagerly awaited Hook in Bloom competition were announced during a special presentation at the Village Show.

The presentations took place on Sunday 10 September in Hook Community Centre, the standard was extremely high and awarding the prizes was a very difficult task.

The pubs in Hook were said to have put on fantastic displays with the winners of the Worlock Trophy being The Hogget, and the Hook Parish Council Trophy for the most attractive business went to the Raven.

The Hook Cross trophy for the Best Allotment was awarded to Cliff Grand-Scrutton, who was consistent through the three checks made through the season.

The judges remarked that Cliff’s definition, crop rotation, weed maintenance and general attention detail was the main reason he came out on top.

Hook in Bloom project leader, Cllr Sue Hinton said: “Well done to everyone who took part in the village’s gardening competitions, it is fantastic see so many people getting involved.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who have worked so tirelessly over these past months.

“Their dedication and commitment means we are able to hold such a superb Hook Village Show for the whole village, see Hook blooming so well and be in a position to sustain it into 2018.”

Other winners included Jane and Richard Jones, Lees Farm Cottage, London Road for most Attractive Front Garden, Sheila and John Honeywell of 2 Vetch Field for the Best Residential Hanging Basket.

Alongside them, Jackie Picton-Robinson of 13 Carleton Close and Brenda Briggs of 23 Compass Field were highly commended for the Front Garden Category and Dean Kirk of 27 Watlington who was highly commended for the Hanging Basket Category.

Cllr Sue Hinton added: “It was a fantastic this year to see how many people had entered or been nominated for the Hook in Bloom competition.

“Far more than in 2016 and anyone who wins a prize is always delighted when others consider their efforts merit an award.

“The judges have really enjoyed telling people they were finalists.”

Hook in Bloom received funding from the Tesco BagsforHelp initiative, Big Lottery Fund Awards for All and Hampshire County Council.
