HUNDREDS of people enjoyed a traditional experience in War Memorial Park last weekend.

The travelling Carters Steam Fair came to Basingstoke on September 2 and 3 with its array of vintage fair rides.

From bumper cars to the carousel, the fair had everything you could imagine from a traditional 1970s fun-fair.

The fair was founded in 1977 by John and Anna Carter, who had run a business promoting vintage car shows, steam rallies, wartime events and collectors’ bazaars throughout the south of England.

Today the fair still has the same values as back in 1977 travelling around the country.

With glorious sunshine on Saturday, there was something for all the family to enjoy, from the mirror show to the shooting gallery, from the vintage transporters to the ghost train.
