TWO Basingstoke athletes have been selected for the School Games National Final.

Rebecca Poole and Ben Pattison will take part in the multi-sport event for the UK’s most talented school-age athletes and held at Loughborough University from August 31 to September 3.

Bishop Challoner Catholic Secondary School student Rebecca, 16, is a member of the Basingstoke and Mid Hampshire Athletics Club, as is 15-year-old Ben who attends Robert Mays School.

Both will compete for the South squad in the Athletics. They already have an impressive record of success: Rebecca has previously won bronze at the English School Championships and last year Ben broke the U15’s 800m British record which has previously stood for fourteen years.

Around 1,600 athletes will compete across 12 sports at the School Games, seven of which include disability disciplines. The four-day event is supported by National Lottery funding from Sport England and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust.
