THE Hampshire Constabulary have made a statement following the closure of the M3 northbound between Junctions 9 and 4a following multiple diesel spills on Sunday.
The carriageway of the motorway was closed from 7pm until midnight to allow ‘excessive clean-up’ work to be done after the spills cause ‘a number of collisions’.
A phased re-opening took place with the carriageway from Junctions 8 to 4a opening first before Junction 9 was the last to reopen.
It was reported initially that the carriageway was closed due to a ‘number of collisions’ that was caused by the oi spilt earlier in the day by vehicle earlier in the day.
However, The Hampshire Constabulary have said in a statement: “We received several calls from motorists who reported the spillage and as a result had lost control of the vehicles however, only two vehicles were reported to have been damaged as a result, a Ford Focus and a Toyota Corolla.
“There were no reported injuries.”
The Hampshire Constabulary would like to thank motorists for their patience whilst they dealt with the incident once again.
