FURTHER discussions between councillors and developers are to be undertaken to make sure new builds fit within a village surrounding.

Parish and ward councillors in Bramley said that a reserved matters application for 58 new homes on land in Minchens Lane submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council did not fit the agreed terms to the outline plans.

Charles Church Developments Limited submitted the plans as part of the development to build 200 new homes in Bramley.

However, during a BDBC development control committee meeting on Wednesday, August 9 Bramley parish councillors asked the committee to defer the application due to it ‘not fitting with the stylings of the rest of the village’.

Parish councillor Chris Tomlin said residents were concerned about the plans for three storey properties near the ‘jewel of Bramley’ in Clift Meadow.

Cllr Tomlin said: “We want the houses, we just want to make something on the impact on the village green to soften it and how we thought it would be and there seems to be a lack of resolve with the developers on this point.”

Fellow parish councillor Malcolm Bell added: “The density of the site is a problem, with 200 houses and 40 per cent affordable means there are bound to be houses that don’t fit in with the character, especially the planned flats.

“Reducing the number of houses on this site would allow developers to be more in fitting with the village and get rid of the flats.”

The proposed development would comprise of 14 twobedroom flats in two blocks, 14. two-bedroom houses, 22.

three-bedroom houses and eight four-bedroom houses, as well as access roads and parking facilities.

Bramley and Sherfield ward councillor Nick Robinson said that there were issues with application that needed to be addressed before it being approved.

Cllr Robinson added: “We ask the developers to please take this away and come back with something which is more acceptable “We know the houses are going to be built so if we can get the last bug bears ironed out and see if we can get it right it would be more beneficial.“ The plans were deferred by the committee, to allow further talks with the developers.
