TIME is fast running out for people to take part in the Spot the Bench competition organised by The Rotary Club of Basingstoke Deane.

As part of the summer-long Sitting with Jane project, which has been organised by Destination Basingstoke and supported by The Gazette, the Rotary club has challenged residents and visitors to ‘spot the benches’.

With just two weeks to go until the trail comes to its conclusion, members of the Rotary Club of Basingstoke Deane are urging people to get involved in this competition, which is a great family activity and a chance for people to get out and see as many benches as possible.

The club is running two competitions simultaneously, where entrants are challenged to either spot 10 BookBenches around Basingstoke town centre or 10 BookBenches around the borough.

Entrants can download a form from the club website, which will reveal a small square of each BookBench they are hunting for as a clue and it is down to them to track it down and cross it off their list.

President of Basingstoke Deane Rotary, Lindy Richardson said: “Rotary has taken pictures of a small section of each of the benches , and you are asked to match up the picture with each bench. There are two separate competitions - one involves the 10 benches around the town centre, the other involved 10 benches around the borough.

“This is all about having a bit of family fun, the competition costs nothing to enter, but any donations will be gratefully received and passed on to The Ark Cancer Charity. And all correct entries will be entered into a prize draw.”

People taking part who get all the the correct answers will be entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning either afternoon tea for four at Audleys Wood Hotel, dinner for two at the Hampshire Court Hotel, afternoon tea for two at the Hampshire Court Hotel, afternoon tea for two at Oakley Hall or afternoon tea for four people at the Apollo Hotel.

After the Sitting with Jane project has come to its conclusion, the BookBenches will be removed and will then be refurbished ready for a public auction to be held Friday, September 15 at The Ark Conference Centre.# All profits from the auction will be going to benefit the Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

The charity is aiming to raise £5 million to build a start of the art cancer treatment facility in North Hampshire.
