A THIRD suspected door-knocking con in a Kingsclere road in a little over a month is being investigated by police.

In the latest incident, on Tuesday, July 18, a man knocked on the door of an elderly resident in Greenlands Road, between 8am and 10am, claiming to be from the gas company.

He said the female resident owed £1,300 for her gas bill. The woman refused to hand over any money and the conman left.

No description has been given of the conman.

The incident follows two other similar attempts made in Greenlands Road in a little over a month.

On Thursday, July 14, at around 2pm a man, unknown to the resident targeted, knocked on the door of the resident. The conman said the resident needed his roof cleaned and it would cost £1,000 for the work to be completed. The resident refused to hand over any money.

And, on Wednesday, June 14, the suspected rogue trader told an 82-year-old resident she owed £900 for roofing repairs. The woman said no money was owed and the man left.

The man returned at around midday and introduced himself as working for the council, and claimed again that the woman owed £900 for roofing repairs.

However, when the woman said she needed to contact a family member, the man left.

Police have confirmed the three incidents are being linked.
