EVERYTHING added up to a fantastic evening for a group of outstanding young mathematicians.

Students from schools including The Costello School and Bishop Challoner School were among 90 young people from across the country invited to the University of Southampton on Wednesday last week to receive prizes for their sterling efforts in the university’s Mathematics Challenge 2017.

More than 1,000 students from schools across the south of England took part in the challenge which involves a selection of interesting and challenging mathematical questions for pupils to attempt at home.

Only the most successful students, along with their parents and teachers, were invited to the prize and certificate presentation evening last week, where they also enjoyed presentations from the university’s mathematics teams.
