A LOVING father and his brother decided to take make a bald statement to support his daughter who is battling cancer.

Rob Thomas, who lives in Kempshott, and brother Justin shaved their heads so Rob’s threeyear-old daughter Alyssa would not feel alone as she undergoes treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

Alyssa was diagnosed in August 2016. She was transferred to The Royal Marsden where she has stayed as an inpatient, during which time she had multiple blood transfusions, intravenous chemotherapy, lumbar punctures and bone marrow extracts.

Rob, Justin and Alyssa’s step mum Laura all chopped their mops to support the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which has helped the three-year-old since her diagnosis.

Initially the trio aimed to raise £100 for the charity, but Rob has surpassed that and so far they have raised more than £3,000.

The music producer said: “Alyssa has been very brave. She has been up and down depending on the side effects of the chemotherapy, but has remained stoic and jovial throughout. I’m so proud of her.

“We decided to shave our heads in support of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity for two reasons: to thank the hospital for the fantastic care she has received; and also so that Alyssa didn’t feel alone when she starts her chemotherapy treatment."

He added: “We want to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for caring for our daughter. The nurses are exceptional. They obviously care so much about the children and the children warm to them – even though they have to give them injections and medications. The doctors and consultants are really accommodating and supportive, if we have any questions someone is on hand to answer them.

“Alyssa doesn’t want to leave when she gets to go home as she loves all the attention she’s been receiving, and also loves the bright environment.”
