A BASINGSTOKE teenager upset the odds to become a double England champion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Despite being just 17-years-old, Rosie Clarke claimed two golds at the English No Gi Championships in London in the adult class.

With no fellow competitors in her age group, Rosie was moved up a division to compete against older participants.

She secured three victories in her own weight division to take home the English title.

Rosie then opted to take part in the absolute division, which is all the weight classes put together – and once again the Basingstoke School of Martial Arts (BSMA) student won all her fights.

“I trained hard multiple times a day to achieve this goal,” said Rosie, who has also won a title at European level.

“I would not have achieved what I have without the help of my Basingstoke Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach Kevin Hall, my strength and conditioning coach Gareth Riddy, my sponsor Scramble Brand, and all of my team-mates at BSMA,” she said.

Rosie’s next goal is to travel abroad to compete against the world’s best fighters.

She has been training at BSMA for two-and-a-half-years, and her Kevin said: “She is one of the hardest working people I know but on top of that she has a great attitude. She is always smiling and happy and a real pleasure to have in our classes.

“I could not be prouder of Rosie and what she has achieved in such a short space of time.”
