STAFF members at a Tadley pre-school took the plunge to raise money for a poorly youngster.

Harrison Loosen, a former pupil at Saplings Pre-school, was diagnosed with Becker muscular dystrophy, which causes slow progressive weakness of all muscles including the heart, in November 2015.

Members of staff at the Newchurch Road nursery were so moved by his family’s fundraising push to help find a cure for the condition that three of them decided to fundraise for Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Chloe Martin, 27, joined colleagues Jane and Penny to skydive this weekend.

Together the trio raised £1,235 to help the research charity and for Chloe it was a massive achievement.

She said: “I’ve been ill all week with a sore throat so to get it out of the way was great.

“I wasn’t too scared to be honest, but it was amazing – such a really good feeling.

“I thought I’d be more scared but I was so ill I was happy to get through the dive.”

The three colleagues jumped face up and plummeted down 10,000ft.

The Loosen family set up Hope4Harrison in a bid to raise £5,000 per year to help Muscular Dystrophy UK with the work it does to provide support for families with a family member with MD.

Earlier this year, the family announced it had already raised more than £15,000.

“After working in a pre-school for many years now I’ve seen lots of children come and go on to achieve great things in life,” Chloe added.

“The little boy Harrison used to come in with us and he was sweet so along with his mum we wanted to raise some money by doing the skydive.

“It was an opportunity for some to face their fears and hopefully we’ll be able to keep raising money for the charity.”
