AN Odiham sporting hero is set to unveil a multi-million pound complex in Hart.

Team GB hockey legend Alex Danson, who starred at last year’s Rio Olympics as the women’s hockey team claimed a historic gold medal, will join former Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington in opening Hart Leisure Centre.

Hart District Council (HDC) invested more than £23 million in the centre, which will be managed by gym experts Everyone Active on behalf of the council.

To mark the opening, an open day will be held on Saturday, April 1 from 10am where people will enjoy a packed day full of events and sporting fun.

The duo will join Cllr Tim Southern, chairman of HDC, in opening the centre.

Cllr Southern said: “I’m very pleased to be showcasing this new leisure centre to our residents. This is an impressive building and the facilities inside are the most modern and state-of-the-art available today.

“The project is one of the biggest investments the council has made and it reflects our commitment to health and wellbeing in the district.

“My thanks to all project partners, especially Everyone Active and Willmott Dixon, for delivering this centre on time and on budget.

“I look forward to welcoming everyone to the open day in April.” The activity day will give visitors the opportunity to tour the new centre and try out tasters in sports such as gymnastics and the gym.

David Love, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “I’m really proud of the new centre and can’t wait to open the doors to the public. While the old centre has served the community fantastically for years and gives us some brilliant, memories, the new centre is a facility for the whole community to be of and enjoy for years to come.”

Richard Poulter, deputy managing direct from Wilmott Dixon, who built the new leisure centre, added: “We are delighted to be here with the team to celebrate the opening of this fantastic centre. “It will provide fantastic facilities for the community for generations to come.”
