POLICE are urging residents to be vigilant after three females were seen posing as energy company employees.
On March 9, at approximately 6pm, the females knocked on doors in the South Ham area of Basingstoke.
They were claiming to be from an energy company and asked people to switch gas suppliers. They did not produce any identification.
Police have advised residents:
- Always ask for ID from the caller if you suspect they are not who they say they are
- Some energy suppliers will have a security word that you can ask for.
- Contact the supplier who they are from to confirm that they have staff calling in the area.
- Never give any personal details to them if you suspect that they might be bogus callers.
If you suspect anything suspicious then do not hesitate to call the police on 101 and report what you have seen.
