PEOPLE with dementia stepped into the limelight to perform poetry at The Forge in Basingstoke.
On March 6, the Finding the Words: Poetry for People Living with Dementia showcase took place led by Maggie Hawkins, a local poet and winner of the Ted Hughes Award for new work in poetry.
They concentrated on a few sources of inspiration to create their poetry, including food, favourite places and memories.
The event saw several members of the group get up and read out their poetry in the professional setting, much to the enjoyment of the crowd.
Steven Pugh, day service officer adults health & care at Hampshire County Council, said “Everyone really enjoyed it and our big thanks go to The Anvil team for taking extra special care in making the event very special.
"The poetry created from memories and experiences record their lives and give an individual value to each and every one who participated.”
