STEPPING away from the stereotype of participating in a beauty pageant, one Basingstoke resident has used the competition to embrace her charitable side.

Hannah Davis, will be one of the finalists of the Woman England Crown and Glory Beauty Pageant, and despite the scepticism of being involved, the 26-year-old has jumped head first into the competition.

“We had a new colleague who started at work that used to take part,” said the Hatch Warren resident.

“We got talking and I mentioned that I used to do some modelling and she encouraged me to give it a go.

“I was a bit apprehensive, but she explained a lot of it is charity driven and a lot more than just looking pretty and slim.”

After doing her research and biting the bullet the architectural adviser settled for the Woman England Crown and Glory Beauty Pageant, which is nationally raising money for Solving Kids’ Cancer to support Dean Puplett, who has Neuroblastoma, a type of children’s cancer.

Hannah got stuck in straight away, and has so far raised £472 to help the charity, which aims to get the treatment Dean needs.

Over Christmas, Hannah did a lot of work to support the Basingstoke Foodbank.

She added: “Before Christmas you always hear about these people who are struggling, so I just wanted to help.

“With those sort of things you never know when you are going to need them, and when people got wind of what I was doing the boot of my car was just full of food to donate.”

In the run up to the final, of which Hannah is in the woman’s category, she plans to collect unwanted clothes and belongings from colleagues and friends to donate them to charity shops around town.

The final will be held on February 25, where Hannah is hoping to advance to the national finals.
