HAMPSHIRE Constabulary are asking residents to remain vigilant after possible rogue trader activity in Basingstoke.

In the past week, the police have had reports of people cold-calling properties in Buckskin and Popley, as well as in Kingsclere.

Employing doorstep traders can lead to poor or incomplete work being carried out on the property. Victims are sometimes quoted a price for services, which is then grossly inflated when the work is complete,

Sergeant Trevor Taylor, of the Basingstoke Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We would like people to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to us by calling 101. Remember, never employ passing traders, and never pay any money upfront.

“If you are considering having work done to your home or garden, get quotes from at least three reputable tradesmen.”
