EVERYONE always thinks about what they want to be when they grow up, but most people don’t get some hands on experience in their dream job at the age of six.

This is exactly what happened to Lacey James, when she was invited to spend the day at the GP Vets surgery, in West Street, Tadley.

The six-year-old wrote a letter to the practice explaining her love for dogs and how she just wants to look after dogs.

After melting the hearts of the staff, Lacey along with her older sister were invited into the surgery to learn exactly what a vet does.

Deputy head vet at the West Street surgery Vicki Crockford showed Lacey the ropes and helped her carry out some tasks.

She said: “It was great to see someone that young show such enthusiasm for animals and to be totally obsessed with being a vet.

“She told us that she doesn’t want to do anything else part from help look after dogs.

“We gave Lacey her own overalls and showed her how to listen to a dog’s heart, and she helped bandage my dog Holly’s legs.”

There was also an extra surprise for Lacey, from The Green, Tadley, when the staff presented her with a book on dogs that she had really wanted.

Lacey’s mother Caroline said that all her daughter could talk about was her visit to the practice.

She told the Gazette: “We’ve just got back from holiday and at every opportunity Lacey would tell people about her visit to the vets.

“She is so determined to become a vet and I really believe that is what she is meant to do.”

Caroline added: “I was just overwhelmed with how kind everyone at the practice was, when we sent off the letter I never thought we would hear anything but they were so accommodating for Lacey.”
