A STEPDAD is calling on a national retailer to change its policies , after his 12-year - old step-daughter purchased DVDs for over 18s only.

Danny Freeman, of Black Dam, has hit out at buying and selling shop CEX, in Wote Street, after his step-daughter picked up three film for over 18s.

Summa-Jane O’Moore, 12, went into the store and picked up Smokin ’ Aces, Satan’s Little Helper and St George’s Day.

Mr Freeman was left shocked after no identification was asked for to prove her age .

“I’m surprised my stepdaughter could buy these films,” Mr Freeman, 27, said.

"If they were able to sell DVDs to my step-daughter, ho w many other children have they sold them to without parents knowing?”

Smokin ’ Aces is a crime thriller film, Satan’s Little Helper was listed as one of Rolling Stone magazine’ s 13 Terrifying Horror Moveis You Can’t Unsee’ and St George’s Day is a British gangster film.

It is illegal to sell an age restricted product to someone under 18 years of age.

Mr Freeman said: “I spoke to the people in CEX after she bought the DVDs, but they said because I was there it was okay, but I didn’t say she should buy these DVDs.”

He added: “I want to war n other parents to keep an eye out on what their children are buying. Something at this shop has to be changed.”

A spokesperson for CEX said: “As a company, we buy and sell tens of thousands of products daily in more than 350 stores in the UK and over 500 stores across 11 countries and we take any allegations such as this seriously.

“In regards to the store in question, they do have five posters on display explaining age restricted products in accordance with BBFC and PEGI ratings standards.

“Our policies and staff training cover the selling of age restricted products to minors and in respect to this all staff within the store have been trained through their induction training.”

A Hampshire County Council spokesperson said: “Hampshire Trading Standards Service welcome receiving any information about any age restricted product being unlawfully sold to persons not yet old enough.”
