AFTER the community rallied round to raise more than £2,000 to aid the recovery of Steven North, they are once again being asked to show their support, this time by sending him a Christmas message.

Mr North has been in hospital since the end of September after a collision on Worting Road Bridge between a red Vauxhall Astra and a silver Vauxhall Vectra, saw the 38-year-old knocked over the railings and on to the southbound carriageway of the A340 Ringway West below.

The incident left Mr North with life threatening injuries and breaking several of his bones.

However, Mr North has been making a steady recovery, but recently received news that he would have to have his right leg amputated.

On a post on Facebook Mr North said: “Unfortunately I have to say that my right leg has not made any improvements over the weekend and I will be losing my right leg from the knee down on Friday, I’m absolutely gutted but I’m positive.”

As it seems likely that he may be spending Christmas in hospital, a new campaign has been set up to show Mr North that the Basingstoke community is thinking of him.

Set up by Marc Neun, who runs the Basingstoke Memories: People and Places page on Facebook, he is asking people to send videos and words of encouragement to Mr North over the festive period.

Mr Neun added: “I wanted to do something different to aid Steve’s recovery.

“He has been stuck in a hospital bed unable to move for over two months.”

Mr Neun is aiming to collect as many messages as possible and make them into a DVD to give Mr North, who is currently in Salisbury hospital.

If you would like to submit a message to Mr North, any form of video or audio message can be sent to videomessagesforsteve@ gmail.com.
