A WALL in Whitchurch has collapsed, writing off a van and damaging another.

The wall, in the car park behind the Kings Arms in Whitchurch, collapsed on to the two vehicles at around 2:30pm on December 3. The wall separates the Kings Arms car park and Longs Court.

Nearby residents and patrons of the Kings Arms heard a loud bang before rushing out to see what had happened. There, they saw the vehicles covered in bricks and the remainder of the wall on the floor.

So far there has been no indication as to why the wall collapsed, as there were no abnormal weather conditions at the time and no other vehicles were seen around at the time of the incident.

Phil Cooper, whose wife was walking by when it happened and took the pictures, said: “She was just walking by when she heard this really loud noise. When she got round she could see what had happened, bricks everywhere on top of the vans. The walls must have been a good 6-8foot tall before they fell, and they did look slightly tilted for a while.”

No one was hurt in the incident, but the vehicle belonging to KMServices was written off, with extensive damage done to the front of the van.

Managing director of KMServices, Kevin Mitchell, 49, said: “The van was written off. It’s such a shame this has happened. We hadn’t had the van for long, only about five years. We’ve lost a few days of business because of this. We’ll have to make do with a hire vehicle in the meantime, I’m just glad no one was hurt. My son Freddie had parked the van a few feet away from the wall, which shows how far the bricks fell. The damage that the van sustained was considerable, and you can only imagine what might have happened if someone was in there.”

So far, the Kings Arms have been unavailable commented on the incident and it is not known at present who the wall belongs to.
