A WOMAN has been rushed to hospital with 80 per cent burns to her body after setting herself on fire.
Police received reports of concerns for the woman's welfare at 9.57am. She is believed to be in her 30s.
The woman was found in King George playing fields near Deep Lane, Brookvale, where it is reported that she had suffered serious burns on her body.
South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) sent an ambulance, a rapid response unit and one of its officers and the Test Valley air ambulance car to the scene.
A SCAS spokesperson said: “We attended the incident at 9.47am to reports of a woman in her 30s who is believed to have set herself on fire.
“She suffered 80 per cent burns and was taken to Southampton’s major trauma unit.”
Officers are not treating the incident as suspicious, with no wider risk to the community.
