JORDAN Collard had his best weekend to date in his first year of racing in the Ginetta Junior Championship.

The 16-year-old collected a double podium at Knockhill with a first and second in the rookie class of the championship in races one and three.

The Hook teenager started his first outing at the Scottish track in 14th and fought his way up to seventh and second rookie behind Tom Ward.

In race two, he started ninth and came in seventh. He saved his best to last as in the final race. Again starting seventh he produced a great drive to finish fifth overall and was the clear rookie winner.

Two podiums in one weekend was great achievement for the teenager, considering he had only had one before this season.

A proud father Rob Collard, who was in action at the same meeting in the British Touring Car Championships, said: “This is the first time Jordan has ever driven at Knockhill and it was by far his best meeting so far. Well done to him.”

Jordan’s double success made up for a frustrating day for Rob Collard, as he was knocked off the top of the drivers’ championship.

A poor qualifying due to problems with the car saw him down in 18th and having been hit for most of race one he had to settle for 16th.

Race two saw the Hook racer back to best as he carved his way up to fifth.

The reverse grid for race three, put Collard second behind Mat Jackson and there were high hopes of a podium finish, unfortunately this disappeared when he was hit and taken off the track by Colin Turkington in the opening laps.

The Irishman was punished by the stewards for the manoeuvre, but this did not help Collard, who did not pick up any points and finds himself in third spot in the drivers' championship on 199 points, which is 32 points behind new leader Sam Tordoff.

Talking after the weekend, Collard said: "It was very frustrating. The driving standards in race one were awful I was getting hit all the time. Then in race three I was in the perfect position to win the race and I have been bulldozered off the track. He made contact and kept coming."

l The next rounds of both the BTCC and Ginetta Championships are at Rockingham on the August 27/28.
