A FIRE was started at a work yard in Basingstoke on Sunday, completely destroying a shed.

Police are appealing for information after the fire broke out between 4.30pm and 6.30pm at the yard in Kite Hill, off Pack Lane, Kempshott.

No one was injured.

PC Helen Carthew, of Basingstoke CID, said: "We believe this fire may have started through misadventure, rather than a deliberate act.

"The work yard is surrounded by tall bushes and trees and is in an isolated position. We would like anyone who has any information on this incident, or who saw people acting suspiciously in this area at this time, to contact us as soon as possible."

Police are reminding owners of sheds and outbuildings to secure them properly.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Carthew at Basingstoke CID on 101, quoting 44160304879.

Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
