A NORTH Hampshire teenager will make an incredible journey this month in memory of her best friend.

Lucy Harley, from Steventon, will tackle a 240-mile route from Winchester to Cornwall to raise funds for Allegra’s Ambition.

The charity was set up in memory of Allegra, who died suddenly in February last year, 16 days after her 16th birthday.

Seventeen-year-old Lucy said: “Allegra was the happiest, kindest person who adored all animals, sport and outdoor activity, and everyone who knew her loved her.

“While my ‘Ride for Allegra’ is mainly to raise money, it’s also to remember her as she was my best friend and I miss her very much, and I know she’ll be with me on this ride.”

The friends were at primary school together in Winchester, and spent summer holidays in Daymer Bay, Cornwall, where the ride will end on August 24.

The route will take Lucy through Wiltshire, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, after it started on Tuesday at Prince’s Mead School, in Winchester.

Money raised will help Allegra’s Ambition support young people to enhance their lives through sport and outdoor activities.

The charity has supported projects including a partnership with the Ebony Horse Club in Brixton, South London, and providing sports equipment to deprived youngsters in Haruma, Kenya.

Lucy and her pony, Wella, aim to tackle 15 miles a day, wearing pink high visibility tabards with Ride for Allegra printed on them.

Her mother, Katy, will follow with a horse trainer and has set up a series of overnight beds, stables and livery yards and fields.

So far, Lucy has raised more than £2,000 of her £5,000 target.
