A BASINGSTOKE dentist is set to swap decaying molars for dance moves next month as he takes part in a special Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser.

Dr Milad Shadrooh, better known as The Singing Dentist, has joined a cast from across the county to raise money for charity Where There’s a Will.

The Chequers Dental Surgery dentist soared to fame earlier this year after his videos, which parody famous music tracks with lyrics about oral healthcare, went viral.

They grabbed the attention of television producers and Dr Milad has since gone on to appear on BBC South Today, Good Morning Britain and This Morning.

And now Dr Milad is bracing himself for a new challenge as he competes to be crowned this year’s Southampton Does Strictly champion.

Dr Milad, who has begun training for the competition, told The Gazette: “It’s been a fascinating experience for me because I am one of those guys who absolutely loves Strictly – the whole vibe of the show and have always wondered what it’s like to get taught by a professional.”

“There’s a lot of expression to a samba - so for me it’s probably the best dance I could have chosen.

“It’s one of those routines where I get to shake my ass a little bit, but to be honest each week more choreography is added and it’s only now that I have realised this type of dance is one of the hardest ones to do.

“But I couldn’t see myself doing a tango because that’s too dramatic, so I opted for this one with a lot of rhythm.”

Dr Milad practises once a week for an hour with his dance partner Laura Chittock.

But despite eight weeks ago announcing the arrival of his second child, Nima, he has managed to bring his moves back home.

“My two and a half-year-old Nilou loves it when daddy dances with her,” Dr Milad continued.

“I get to cuddle her and go through my steps whilst holding her although when she, my wife and Nima came to watch me rehearse with Laura in Bracknell she had a bit of a strop.

“She was like ‘why is daddy dancing with another woman’ – that was funny and cute but a bit of a disastrous rehearsal.”

The fundraising dance has been organised by Where There’s a Will founder Heather Parsons – herself a contestant on a Comic Relief special of the reality dance show.

Where There’s a Will are an organisation which aims to raise funds and increase public awareness about the role of General Intensive Care and the needs of its patients and their families and friends.

Heather said: “Milad is such a star – as is Laura.

“I saw him on the BBC and thought I would email and ask him about coming in and since getting in contact he has been absolutely brilliant.”

“I haven’t managed to see him dance just yet, but I have been getting reports from Laura and it sounds like there’s going to be a bit of Milad’s personality added to a very traditional dance.

“It’s going to be interesting.”

Dr Milad takes to Southampton’s Ageas Bowl on Saturday July 16.

Tickets for the evening event are £50 but there is also a matinee session where entrants can watch a special routine from Strictly Come Dancing’s Otlile Mabuse - with tickets £10 for adults and £5 for children.
