A BRAVE woman from Popley has become the face of a new campaign which tackles the stigma attached to psoriasis.

Giorgia Lanuzza, 25, suffers with psoriasis, which is characterised by red, flaky patches of skin covered with silvery scales.

Psoriasis covers 97 per cent of her body is covered in and last year she made the bold decision to strip for camera to encourage the world to re-appraise what it means to be beautiful through her self-portraiture.

This led to being chosen for ‘I Am Beautiful’ – a campaign which focuses on the importance of lifestyle and feeling good on the inside and how to help in managing psoriasis.

“I felt so self-conscious about the condition – it was ruining my life,” said Giorgia.

“Finally I have come to terms with my skin and have realised that I am beautiful. I am proud of my psoriasis as it reminds me that I am strong.

“Taking pictures enables me to continually appreciate the beautiful side of life, as well as washing away the everyday stresses of life.

“After years of feeling psoriasis ruled my life, I have taken back control and can see that I am beautiful – and so are you.”

Psoriasis is a condition which affects between two and three per cent of people in the UK.

The campaign was launched at a special seminar in London where Giorgia spoke, along with renowned portrait artist Brock Elbank, and leading mindfulness expert Suryacitta Malcolm Smith.

It’s sponsored by psoriasis chemists Exorex and their brand manager, Dawn Spiby said: “Psoriasis is a life-long condition, and many find coping with outbreaks to be hard.

“We hope hearing Giorgia’s story helps people to make peace with their condition: her positive attitude can be an inspiration to us all, whether we are affected by psoriasis or not.”
