A LECTERN worth more than £10,000 has been stolen from a church near Basingstoke.
The brass lectern was taken from the St Mary the Virgin and St John the Baptist Church in Harts Lane, Newtown, on the Hampshire/Berkshire border.
Officers believe that the thieves forced open the main door of the church before stealing the lectern between 6pm on Thursday and 11am on Friday.
The object has been described as brass with an eagle book rest on a round column and bell-shaped base.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses who may have any information about the incident to call Basingstoke CID on 101 quoting 44160197975 or call Crimestopper anonymously on 0800 555 111.
