THE officer who was continually attacked for 15 minutes by a driver she breathalysed has been nominated for this year’s National Police Bravery Award.

PC Vikki Sharpe, a member of the Roads Policing Team at the time of the incident in June 2014, was on duty when she noticed Innocent Fowung driving erratically along the M3 near Basingstoke.

After pulling him over Fowung’s vehicle, PC Sharpe requested a breath test but Fowung resisted and for 15 minutes continued to grappled with her.

PC Sharpe managed to cuff one of Fowung’s hands, but the driver was able to get his car keys out and attempted to drive away – with the officer clinging on to the back of his vehicle.

Fowung was sentenced to 22 months in jail and banned from driving for three years.

Commending her bravery, John Apter, chairman of the Hampshire Police Federation, said: “It is right that PC Sharpe is recognised for her immense bravery that day.”
