STAFF from Barclays in Basingstoke have brought a whole new meaning to going the extra mile in a bid to raise £1,000 for charity.

Andy Corringham and Sarah Barnes, who work at the Basingstoke branch, based at the Top of the Town, will be taking part in the 10th anniversary of Naomi Houses Clarendon Way Walk.

But the pair didn’t want to stop at 26 miles and have challenged themselves to go a step further by walking 111 miles for the charity culminating in the Naomi House event.

The duo have been doing one walk a month starting at different Barclays branches and heading back to Basingstoke, increasing the distance each time.

So far they have walked from Tadley, Newbury and Reading.

The inspiration behind the walks comes from the sudden passing of one of Andy’s friends.

“He was in a pretty dull job and then one day he gave up everything to work with children and you could just see the change in him,” said Andy.

“I have always wanted to do something for charity and when the connection with a children’s hospice came about I knew I had to do it as it would be something he would have loved.”

Andy said that everyone in the different branches have been really supportive and even before they started their online promotion, the pair had raised nearly £200. The total of the pairs fundraising efforts will be doubled, thanks to Barclays prince match scheme.

Ahead of the Clarendon Way Walk, Barclays Basingstoke will be hosting a Spring fair on June 2, where there will be craft workshops and charity stalls including Naomi House in the branch.

Andy and Sarah will complete their 111 miles on June 5 as they walk from Winchester Cathedral to Salisbury Cathedral. To support the pair visit justgiving.com/ walkingfornaomihouse.
