A LITTLE boy with a big heart has raised more than £1,000 after deciding to run 10k for a special cause.

As previously reported in The Gazette, Callum Savings decided he wanted to do something to help two-year-old Emmy King, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy spastic diplegia last July.

The seven-year-old took on a 10k run on Sunday, starting at Tesco Express in Lychpit, and managed to raise an incredible £1,185.50 for Ready Emmy Walk.

He was cheered on by spectators who came out to support the Old Basing Infant School pupil, and was spurred on by friends and family, some of whom took part in the run alongside him.

He previously told The Gazette: “I am really excited to run for Emmy so that one day she can run too.”

Emmy’s mother Carly, from Lychpit, launched a fundraising appeal in January to raise the £85,000 needed to pay for life-changing surgery in America, which helps sufferers walk, as the procedure is not yet available on the NHS in the UK.

So far, the appeal has raised more than £50,000, and Callum has now bumped the figure up even further with his fundraising efforts.

Carly, 30, described Callum’s challenge as “incredible” adding: “It was a fantastic event with lots of spectators.”

The King family is also delighted to have received support from EastEenders actress Natalie Cassidy, who has helped raise awareness of the appeal via social media.

And this week a film has been released to help spread the word about Ready Emmy Walk, made by Basingstoke production company Media Kenetic.

Carly said: “We’re really hoping it will help us get closer to the fundraising target for Emmy.”
