WORKERS are now on site as major restoration work on a church gets underway.
The contracted builder R J Smith has begun work on the Church of St Mary and All Saints in Droxford in preparation for the restoration funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The Friends of Droxford Church and Droxford Parochial Church Council secured the £222,200 funding for the Droxford Church Community Hub and Heritage Project.
A confirmed grant of up to £188,300 was confirmed in March bringing up the final total.
The first phase involves carrying out urgent restoration work to the church tower, roof and drainage system.
Further work will install glazed screens in the north chapel in order to create a Community Room.
The project aims to deliver a programme of activity to engage people with the heritage of the church.
Work is expected to take five months.
