LOVERS of the great outdoors are invited to spend the night under the stars at a special camping event being held at an historic property.

The National Trust, in partnership with outdoor retailer Cotswold Outdoor, is hosting the Big Camp at The Vyne, in Sherborne St John, on Saturday, July 16, when visitors can spend the night in the walled garden of the house, once visited by Tudor monarchs.

Those attending will be invited to bring picnics and barbecues to enjoy a meal al fresco before setting up camp in the picturesque garden, which will be filled with summer colour, fruit and vegetables.

A guided walk will be held in the evening, taking guests through the grounds of the ancient estate.

As the sun sets, campers will be treated to a magical dusk chorus, as The Vyne’s wildlife settles down for nightfall.

Places are limited, so to book a Big Camp experience visit national trust.org.uk/bigcamp.

Tickets cost £12.50 for adults and £7.50 for children, and campers need to bring their own tent, sleeping bags, food and refreshments.
