CHINEHAM RFC are the only local rugby side left with a perfect record in 2016 after they beat visiting Farnborough 24-7 in Hampshire One.

The visitors missed an early penalty as the Lions dominated the rest of the half and were finally rewarded with a try after 33 minutes after a long struggle in Farnborough’s 22, Chineham pushed through for their first try.

By stretching the defence from wing to wing three times, gaps appeared with Dave Rees touching down and Kieran Daley added the extras.

Just two minutes later, Chineham scored again when prop Jack Douglas finished off a driving maul, which the home forward pack can be rightly be proud of. Daley’s conversion was thwarted by the wind as the ball struck the upright.

Rees then scored again as the home side led 19-0 at half time.

Chineham scored their bonus point try shortly after the break, when Matt Lingham’s cheeky backhanded offload pass thoroughly confusing the Farnborough’s defence giving lock Karl Pullen the space to run through. Once again the conversion attempt hit the post. The visitors then scored a converted try to complete the scoring.

Speaking after the game, captain Tom Johnson was pleased with the result, but will be looking for an increase in focus and more clinical finishing, when they take on bottom side Locksheath on Saturday February 13.

Overton lost narrowly 24-20 at Fawley in Hampshire Two and next for them is a home game on February 13 against Southampton. On the same day Fawley entertain Kingsclere who were beaten by visiting Aldershot last weekend.

Tadley suffered a 36-15 defeat to visiting Berks Bucks and Oxon Premier League leaders the result still leaves then fourth ahead of their next game on February 13 away at lowly Hungerford.

Aldermaston had no game in the Championship, but are back in action also a week on Saturday when they travel to Faringdon.
