A FAMOUS castle will open its doors for the day to raise funds for the Oxfam Syria Crisis Appeal.

Lord and Lady Carnarvon will welcome guests to Highclere Castle on Monday, December 7 when Songs for Peace will be held with special guests on the East Lawns in front of the castle library.

Lady Carnarvon said: "The purpose of Songs for Peace is to make our voices heard about the plight of millions of refugees whose lives have been uprooted and destroyed as a result of the devastating war in Syria.

"As winter approaches, we hope to raise hard cash to provide food, shelter, medicine, and clothing for people spending the coldest months of the year in refugee camps in Jordan and Lebanon, or escaping the civil war by sea and on foot in search of peace."

Representatives from Oxfam will be on hand throughout the day to share information about how to contribute to the Syria Crisis Appeal and explain how a donation will truly help those in need.

More than 200,000 people have lost their lives as a result of the Syrian conflict.

More than 11 million people have fled their homes and over four million are living in neighbouring countries including Lebanon and Jordan.

In Syria alone more than 12 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance such as water, food and shelter.

Special guest entertainers will be singing out for Syria throughout the day.

The castle's tea rooms and coach house will be open serving hot food and drinks.

Tickets for the event cost £30 per person, £10 for under 12s and free for those under the age of four.

Tickets include entry to the castle, Egyptian Exhibition, gardens and musical entertainment throughout the day.

Visitors are encouraged to wear sensible warm and waterproof outdoor clothing and footwear, and to use public transport where possible as parking will be limited.
