A VILLAGE junior school has been awarded for its sustainability work.

Greenfields Junior School in Hartley Wintney has achieved the Eco-School’s Silver Award, which was presented by Dr Paul Howe, the biodiversity officer for Hart District Council, at a school assembly on November 12.

The school’s Eco-School programme is run by a team of student eco-warriors under the guidance of Fiona Moseley and Ruth Jarman.

To upgrade their Bronze Award of last year to the Silver Award they have continued to raise awareness in the whole school community of how to act sustainably.

As well as improving recycling – with pen recycling boxes in all classrooms and recycling bins at school functions – the group also focused on biodiversity.

Dr Howe said: “The award is recognition of all the hard work pupils and staff have put in to making sustainability and environmental awareness a key part of school life.”

The new headteacher of Greenfields, Emma Stacey, said: “To be awarded the Silver Award is a fantastic achievement and recognition of our work.”
