VENUES in the German city of Hanover have been evacuated this evening after a 'credible' bomb threat, it is being reported.

The Germany v Netherlands football match in Hanover has been cancelled, following the discovery of a suspicious device, and a pop concert has also been called off.

The HDI-Arena was being evacuated after a package - thought to be a suitcase - was found. It has been described as an 'explosive device' by German media.

Many top German officials, including Chancellor Angela Merkel, were scheduled to attend the match at the 49,000 capacity stadium, to show they will not bow to terrorism.

Saints player Jordy Clasie was named in the Dutch squad for the match before it was cancelled.

The German team was playing in Paris during Friday night's attacks, which have left 129 people dead.

Shortly after 7.10pm, reports came that a music venue in Hanover was also being evacuated following threats being made.

German pop band Söhne Mannheims were due to perform at the 14,000 capacity arena.

The TUI-Arena in the city was due to host a pop concert and chief police officer Volker Kluwe tolds local television reporters that it was a "concrete plan for something to explode".
