DIABETES UK will provide advice and information for people recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in Basingstoke next month.

The charity will hold a ‘Living with Diabetes Day’ at the Ark Conference Centre, in Dinwoodie Drive, on November 27.

The one-day event, which is funded by Tesco, is aimed at helping people with Type 2 diabetes to live well with the condition.

On the day, health experts will be on hand to provide information on subjects including local healthcare services, diet, medication, driving and avoiding health complications associated with diabetes, such as heart disease, amputation and blindness.

Jill Steaton, Diabetes UK South East regional manager, said: “There are around 10,000 people living with Type 2 diabetes in north Hampshire and we know that being diagnosed with the condition can have a life-changing effect on people.

“There is a lot of information to take in, particularly at the time of diagnoses, so these events are a great way to get detailed expert advice in an easy-to-digest way, as well as being an opportunity to meet other people living with Type 2 diabetes.

“We hope the Living with Diabetes Day will give people with Type 2 diabetes in the area the information and confidence they need to live well with the condition.”

Places for the ‘Living with Diabetes Day’ are limited. Anyone interested in attending is asked to register online www.diabetes.org.uk/lwdd or by calling 0345 123 2399.
