AN EMPTY Chineham shop could be transformed into a children’s tuition centre if plans are given the go-ahead by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

Explore Learning Limited has applied to the borough council for permission to change the use of a vacant shop at Chineham Shopping Centre.

According to the application, the holiday and term-time educational service will offer five to 14-year-olds the chance to have extra tuition in English and maths.

If the proposals are approved, the centre will be open between 9am and 8pm, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 6pm on Saturdays and between 9am and 4pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

The application says: The proposed Explore Learning Centre will be a very local facility. Explore Learning always seek to build relationships with, and focus their marketing on, schools within the immediate area of a new centre.

“Given its location close to the residential areas of Chineham and Lychpit, there is a large potential catchment population for the Explore Learning Centre.”
