A MORTIMER bell ringing group has been given a cash boost from the Atomic Weapons Establishment.
AWE has donated £200 to the Mortimer bell ringers who are fundraising to pay for the restoration of the 120-year-old bells at St John’s Church in Mortimer.
Originally installed in 1896, the six bells at St John’s Church require a new oak frame and need to be professionally turned to prevent the bells from cracking. The repair work is expected to cost £12,000, which will ensure the bells are able to ring for another 100 years.
