A ROCKET-inspired £25,000 climbing frame has been officially unveiled at a primary school.

Children from Overton Church of England Primary School will benefit from the new equipment which was paid for using funds raised by the Overton School Association (OSA).

The parents’ fundraising group has raised funds for several years for the new climbing frame, and it was finally installed over the summer holidays.

Children have been involved in the fundraising, and held a competition at the summer fete which saw each year group battle it out to raise money from their own business stalls.

The winning year group produced postcards, making an impressive £300.

Other fundraising initiatives included a children’s raffle, with the top prize of taking over the role of headteacher for the day.

Fundraising took place at several existing annual events, including at the school’s firework display and summer fete, with additional events also organised by OSA.

Fiona Wyeth, headteacher, said: “The new climbing frame represents a significant amount of work and effort from the community and will enhance the provision for the children. It is really exciting to see it now installed and even more exciting to see it being used by the children.”

Debbie Cowley, chair of OSA, added: “The support from the village throughout our fundraising efforts has been extraordinary; the local businesses have donated everything from burger buns to haircuts, CarFest tickets to sponsorship money. The OSA has had a very busy few years to get us to this point; as well as the committee we have a team of helpers who turn up at every event to make sure it all happens.”
