PLANS have been submitted to build two separate housing developments in Bramley, totalling 132 homes.

Hollins Strategic Land has lodged an application with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to build 82 homes, of which 33 would be affordable, at land adjacent to The Street.

The application states: “The proposed development site is one of the few sites that exists to the south of The Street, which retains a frontage and relationship with the main route through the village.”

The plans include creating new vehicular access off The Street, installing a private drive at the forefront of the development to “soften the development edge”, retaining the existing hedgerow boundaries, and providing an area of open space.

The second application, from Gleeson Developments Limited, asks to build 50 homes on land to the north of Sherfield Road, owned by the Stratfield Saye Estate. The development would include a mixture of one and two-bedroom flats, and two, three and four-bedroom houses.

A petition has been launched by a Bramley resident Bruce Ansell against any future development in the village.

He believes developers are taking advantage of the borough council’s lack of a local plan, which will determine where houses should be built over the next five years.

The father-of-two, who is a councillor for Bramley Parish Council, is calling on the borough council to reject any more plans for homes in the village.

Councillor Mark Ruffell, the council’s Cabinet member for planning and infrastructure, said: “We have just received the petition and we will deal with it in accordance with our normal procedures.”
