POPULAR broadcaster Clare Balding will be the guest of honour at two special events at Kingsclere library tomorrow.

The 44-year-old broadcaster and writer, who is originally from Kingsclere, will be reading an extract from her new children’s book to around 35 children at the library, in George Street, tomorrow afternoon.

In addition, she will be hosting a special question-and-answer session for adults in the evening, as well as talking about her books and her experience of walking around the country for BBC Radio 4 show Ramblings.

The two ticketed events, which have raised around £800 for Kingsclere Community Library, are aimed at promoting the facility which was taken over by volunteers in April.

Nicki Lee, co-ordinator of the library committee, told The Gazette: “She has been very generous with her time. She is Kingsclere born and raised so she is a firm favourite.

“She is going to give talks mostly about her book, Walking Home, which is about her walking back to Kingsclere, and also about her involvement in walks for the Radio 4 programme she is doing.”

The library was awarded funds for the running of the library which will see them receive £2,750 in the first year and £2,500 and £2,250 for the subsequent years.

Volunteers will be holding a number of other fundraising events in the future to raise extra funds for the running of the community facility.
