GREEN will be the theme of a week-long showcase of events and activities being held in the borough.

Green Week will take place in from Saturday, September 19 to Sunday, September 27, organised by the Basingstoke Transition Network and supported by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and The Gazette.

A variety of environmentally-friendly themed events and activities will be held in the borough during the week, hosted by groups including Brookvale Community Association, Greening Chineham, Inspero, Incredible Edible and Overton Sustainability Forum.

The week will launch with the Basingstoke Green Fair, in Festival Place on September 19 from 9am to 5pm.

Visitors will be able to find out information and receive advice. on everything from recycling and local produce to what eco-friendly products are good to use.

This will be followed by a family fun afternoon at Brookvale Community Hall with pizza making and sustainability themed workshops.

More than 26 different events will be held as part of Green Week, including a variety of activities to keep children entertained and thinking about how to protect the environment, such as a swap shop and craft session, daffodil planting and a green fun day.

There will also be workshops, community cycle rides, a clothes swap, talks, a networking evening and recycling day.

A pop-up shop will open in Festival Place, with people on hand to talk about saving energy, swapping suppliers and renewable energy.

Councillor Hayley Eachus, the council’s cabinet member for regulatory services, said: “Green Week has grown in size each year and I am very pleased that we are supporting the week again. It’s fantastic that so many local groups and individuals want to get involved and raise awareness of how people can really make a difference by being greener.”
