RAIN did not dampen the spirits of people looking for a bargain at a church fundraiser.

Scores of people turned up for the annual fete at St John Fisher Catholic Church in Bell Street, Whitchurch, on Saturday.

Bric-a-brac, clothes and the fete’s famous cream teas were on offer to punters, with stalls and children’s games set up in the church’s grounds.

But the fete had to be cut short when it began to rain, with organisers moving everything inside the building.

Organiser Lil White said: “We opened at 2pm and stopped just a little bit sooner than normal.

“It was a very good fete and it was lovely this morning when we were setting it up.

“We are very grateful to everybody that supports us every year, and we have been running it now for nearly 40 years.”

One feature of this year’s fete was a raffle, with prizes including a bottle of whisky and a hamper full of groceries.

Churchgoers donated items for the sale and proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the church, which is part of the Andover parish.
