A MAN was struck on the head with a bottle after being confronted by a group of men in Rooksdown.

The 21-year-old suffered a large laceration and other cuts to his head following the assault on August 31 between 4am and 4.30am.

The victim was walking home and entered a footpath leading from Mill Road/Highpath Way to Park Prewett Road when he was met by the group.

Two men from the group approached and challenged him.

He tried to walk away but was struck on the head.

One of the offenders was described as white, aged 17 to 19-years-old, approximately 5ft 6ins tall and of an average build.

He had brown hair, was clean shaven and was wearing skinny fit jeans, a dark top and white plimsolls.

Detective Constable Tracy West from the Northern Investigation Team said: “We are appealing for witnesses who might have been in the area at the time to contact the police, even if they feel it may not be relevant.

“This appears to be an unprovoked and random assault and enquiries are ongoing in relation to the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of being assaulted with a smashed bottle and we would urge members of the public to report activity that they might have seen at the time, in particular if they saw a group men in the area at the time.”
