OFFICES in Basing View are without water this afternoon following a leak this morning at the construction site for the new John Lewis at home and Waitrose development.

Water was gushing from the site onto the Eastrop Roundabout at lunchtime, caused by a South East Water leak.

The incident is thought to have affected several offices in Basing View, which are without water as a result.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council said South East Water is currently on site trying to repair the leak.

Construction of the new 73,000 square foot multi-million pound development, which will include a cafe and more than 400 car parking spaces, started last year.

A busy road which runs through the site, linking Norn Hill and Eastrop, is still closed, after rain resulted in a delay to its re-opening.

It was initially due to re-open by August 22, having been closed since November to allow for the construction of the development.

Last week, the borough council said contractors were "doing their utmost to complete the works before the bank holiday weekend".

However, the road remains closed today.
