A ROBBER threatened a couple with a gun in an alleyway.

The robbery took place in the alleyway that connects Shooters Way and Jefferson Road, South View, at around 2am on Saturday morning.

Police said a man wearing a balaclava approached them and pointed at them with what appeared to be a handgun.

The force said it is not known whether the gun was genuine or a replica.

The man demanded the couple hand over their possessions, which included two mobile phones, cash, a wallet, and a black drawstring bag containing a hard drive and tobacco.

The couple, aged in their 20s and who were walking home at the time, were not assaulted or injured but police said they have been left shocked by what happened.

Detective Inspector Tim Ireson said: “We’re following several lines of enquiry with additional patrols in the local community to identify the robber and his movements during the early hours of Saturday.

“This is being treated as an isolated incident as there is no information to suggest any links to other known crimes or incidents.

“Officers would like to hear from anyone who may remember seeing a man acting suspiciously in the area of Shooters Way, Jefferson Road and this alleyway at around or shortly after 2am on Saturday, August 29.”

The man is described as being aged in his 20s, around 6ft 2ins tall, and of a broad, muscular build. He was wearing a balaclava with a grey hooded top with the hood up.
