A BUMPER crowd is expected this bank holiday weekend for a horse riding competition that will feature Olympic hopefuls.

The Wellington Horse Trials will take place at Duke of Wellington’s estate in Stratfield Saye from Saturday until Monday. More than 600 riders will compete in events including dressage, showjumping and cross country.

Other attractions will include a new food hall, with stands including the local Wellington Farm Shop, alongside trade stands. with goods such as home furnishings, hats jewellery and jumpers.

Dog lovers will also be in for a treat as the nationally-acclaimed Solent Dog Display team will be performing in the Attractions Arena.

There will be more doggie delights in the form of the West Berks Gundog Club, which will be demonstrating the skills involved in training a dog to retrieve, point and mark.

There will also be face painting, bouncy castles and the entertaining Pony Club Games, as well as a vintage car display.

Organiser, David Sheerin said: “This will be our fourth year running the event and to be awarded international status is a real coup.We expect the standard to be very high."
