THE Mayoress of Basingstoke and Deane has gone into the borough’s record books after welcoming a new son into the world.

The current Mayoress of Basingstoke and Deane, Colette Court, and husband Stephen welcomed their new son, Alexander David, into the family.

Alexander, who is the first baby born to a Mayoress during her year in office in Basingstoke and Deane, was born at 8.15am on August 15, weighing 9lbs 1oz, at Andover Birthing Centre and was later cared for, along with the Mayoress, at Basingstoke hospital.

Mayoress Colette Court, who credits hypnobirthing antenatal classes for helping with the birth, said: “We are really happy with the safe arrival of the newest addition to our family and are so grateful for the wonderful care we received at both the birthing centre and the hospital and would like to say a special thank you to midwives Sue, Anne and Cat who looked after us so well.”

Proud grandmother and Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Councillor Anne Court, added: “I am absolutely delighted at the birth of my new grandson.

"I would also like to thank the staff at the birthing centre and Basingstoke hospital for the fantastic care and support they have given the family.”
